I grew up in Mexico and earned an MA in Spanish and Latin American literature at Edinburgh University. I‘ve spent most of my professional life working as an editor with a special interest in translation and world literature. My editing career began at the London publishing house Secker & Warburg. I went on to join Little, Brown in Boston, and later worked as an independent editor and literary agent in Hong Kong. Since coming to the West Coast in 1995, I've been a judge and editor for the San Francisco-based Kiriyama Pacific Rim Book Prize / WaterBridge Review, and edited and served on the board of Seattle’s literary magazine, The Raven Chronicles. Recent projects include editing Erika Berg’s "Forced to Flee: Visual Stories by Refugee Youth from Burma," which won the 2016 Next Generation Indie Book Awards in the current social/change category at BEA. I’m currently editing a history of the mixed-income, green development at High Point in West Seattle. And, later this spring, I’ll launch per-e-gren.com, to spotlight the work of emerging immigrant writers in source languages and in translation. I also volunteer as a teacher and advocate at Casa Latina, an immigrant workers’ rights organization in Seattle.
