His transcreation of the “Ramayana� drew raves at the ASEAN Cultural Festival in Bangkok, after the play’s premiere at the Asia Pacific Bureau of Theatre Schools Festival in Singapore. “Sita: The Ramayana Revisited� is just one of over 50 major productions this award-winning playwright has produced that has received acclaim in over a hundred cities worldwide in Europe, Asia, America, and the Pacific. He founded the Integrated Performing Arts Guild (IPAG) that is recognized as a leading performance company and the most-travelled Philippine repertory group today. His prodigious work spans over four decades, anthologized, published, and widely acknowledged through national and international awards. These include the Palanca, the CCP Pilak, CCP Gantimpala, the Fr. Francisco Demetrio Award for Culture and the Arts, UP Likhaan, Global Pinoy, the Gawad Pedro Bucaneg and Pambansang Gawad Francisco Balagtas both from the prestigious UMPIL, and Fellowships to Sweden, Tokyo, and the U.S. He founded the Philippines’ only Culture and Arts Studies Program at the Mindanao State University-Iligan Institute of Technology where he is Professor. As Visiting Professor and Culture-Performance Studies specialist, he has lectured in most Philippine universities from north to south besides establishing performance and arts programs. His pedagogy centers on his original principles of transcreation and distillation. (In the last 18 months, he has lectured in Sharjah, Shanghai, Bangkok, Singapore, Manila, and Ho Chi Minh Cities.) Listed in the Cambridge International Biographic Centre’s 2001 edition of Who’s Who in the World (1st edition), the 2000 Outstanding Intellectuals of the 21st Century (1st edition), he is also featured as “Defender of our Heritage,� Fookien Times’ Philippine Yearbook, and the CCP Encyclopedia of the Arts.
