Leza Lowitz

Leza Lowitz is a best-selling author who lives in Tokyo with her husband, writer Shogo Oketani (www.j-boysbook.com), and their young son. The California native also owns a popular yoga studio (www.sunandmoon.jp) and travels around the world teaching yoga and sharing her writing. Lowitz has published 20 books in many genres, most recently a young adult novel, "Up from the Sea" (Crown/Penguin Random House, 2016). Her awards include the APALA Asian American Award for Young Adult Literature, a PEN fiction Award, the PEN Oakland Josephine Miles Poetry Award, grants from the National Endowment for the Arts, National Endowment for the Humanities, the California Arts Council, and the U.S.-Japan Friendship Commission Translation Award from Columbia University. Four of her titles have been #1 best-sellers on amazon. Her classic "Yoga Poems: Lines to Unfold By," has been translated into four languages, including Farsi.. She has also written a best-selling memoir on adapting and adopting in Japan, entitled "Here Comes the Sun."
